“Marissa Resort Sazanseto Suo-Oshima” is taking on various initiatives to protect the history, nature, culture and traditions of the island and contribute to its development. This time, bamboo art will be exhibited. Using abandoned bamboo forests in Suo-Oshima and making effective use of those. Also our group participate in an “Event to consider environmental protection of Suo-Oshima.” After the exhibition, the bamboo used in this art will be processed into bamboo charcoal. Then returned to the ground as a soil conditioner, which will help to nurture rich water and flow into the sea, helping to protect the environment of Nihon-awa-sango(Alveopora japonica).

[About the bamboo art]
Starting from the entrance, the courtyard, counter, and around the shop, locally grown bamboo is used to create a cool space. The main focus is on the entrance and courtyard, while the lobby shop and counter are decorated with small bamboo items to unify the space.
The bamboo object at the entrance is a collaboration with Mr. Kaneko of the Sogetsu school, who is active in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Customers can touch the work, and during the Tanabata Week event, there will be a participatory event where customers can write their wishes on pieces of bamboo as strips of paper and display them as art.
Hotel guests can also enjoy a beautiful bamboo lantern space in the courtyard patio, created in collaboration with Mr. Tanaka, a bamboo lantern artist active throughout Japan.
