Event Overview

Marissa Resort Sazanseto Suo-Oshima is taking on various initiatives to protect the island’s history, nature, culture and traditions and contribute to their development. As part of this initiative, the hotel will hold a “Hotel Marche” to support entrepreneurs in Yamaguchi Prefecture and Suo-Oshima on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 11th) and Father’s Day (Sunday, June 15th). Through this marche, the hotel will provide guests with a travel experience that allows them to “experience the thoughts that go into each vegetable, fruit and product,” “discover the appeal of food and the people who make it,” and “lead to new joy.”

Yamaguchi Prefecture is working to increase the appeal of agriculture, forestry and fishing, and to foster “Yamaguchi Wonderful Women in Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries” who will be role models for female farmers, foresters and fishermen, with the aim of attracting young people to rural areas. In addition, the “Yanai-Oshima Regional Women’s Agricultural Association” has been in operation since 2018, where young women involved in agriculture in Yanai City, Suo-Oshima Town and Tabuse Town have been making friends with people of the same generation, learning about solving problems in agricultural management and exchanging information.

Marissa Resort Sazanseto Suo-Oshima, which is also a “Yamaguchi Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Wonderful Women’s Supporter Group,” opened an “Agricultural Women’s Corner” in a corner of the souvenir and goods shop in conjunction with its reopening in July 2023, where it has been introducing and sharing information about local women’s gatherings, purchasing ingredients for use in the hotel, and selling products. This Marche will create interaction between producers and consumers, and further promote the appeal of Suo-Oshima and Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Introduction of Marche exhibitors and their comments

Ouchi Rose Garden

“Yamaguchi Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Wonderful Women” “Yanai-Oshima Area Agricultural Women’s Association”

Selling rose bouquets, edible roses, and processed products (rose syrup)
“Ouchi Rose Garden was founded in 1983 in his hometown of Suo-Oshima, Yamaguchi Prefecture, after the owner traveled to Oregon in 1979 to gain know-how in rose cultivation. Currently, he grows over 15 varieties of roses. In 2016, he began cultivating edible roses and making rose syrup.”

Keikitsu Farm

“Yamaguchi Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Wonderful Women” “Yanai-Oshima Area Agricultural Women’s Association”

Manufacture and sale of citrus fruits, rice, and processed foods (mandarin orange juice, mandarin orange amazake)
“‘Nature is lonely, but when humans add to it, it becomes warm.’ These are the words of Tsuneichi Miyamoto, a great man from Suo-Oshima Town, known as the island of mandarin oranges. Fascinated by the warm scenery of this island, we work hard at our cultivation every day to pass that scenery on to future generations.”

côki (umeda koki)

Suo-Oshima Town

Making and selling woodwork using discarded mandarin orange trees from Suo-Oshima. “Trees store memories of the past that we cannot know in their rings, and convey them to the present. Trees have deep roots in this earth and have lived just like us. Each tree has a story of its long life, 30, 40 years…, and that story is engraved in its rings. We create unique works that capture the beauty of nature, from everyday items that can be carried around to furniture. We strive to create works that convey the warmth and beauty of wood.”

Atelier Mariko Ame *June 15th only

Yamaguchi Prefecture

Making and selling upcycled accessories using marine plastic waste and discarded citrus fruits. “Our base of operations is Suo-Oshima, Yamaguchi Prefecture. We process and sell accessories made from citrus fruits that farmers have painstakingly grown, such as fruits that are discarded due to thinning, not meeting the standards, or poor appearance, in the hope of helping farmers avoid throwing away even a single fruit.”

Yamaguchi Cider

Yamaguchi Prefecture

Manufacture and sale of sparkling wine and syrup. “A low-alcohol, fruity sparkling wine made from 100% “Tokusa apples” grown in the Ato Tokusa region of Yamaguchi City. We use the minimum amount of antioxidants to prevent spoilage, and we make our wine to bring out the natural flavor of the apples. The dry wine is fermented in the bottle for the second time, while the sweet wine is fermented in the bottle for the first time, using only the sugar from the apples. The carbon dioxide produced by fermentation dissolves into the liquid, giving it a gentle mouthfeel. The concept is “a sake that brings out the flavor of Yamaguchi Prefecture’s ingredients.” We hope many people will enjoy this marriage of the seafood, mountain produce, and the bounty of the earth.”

Ryujinnosato *Suo-Oshima High School students will participate as sales trainees

Suo-Oshima Town

Chefs supervise and are involved in the salt production, aiming to create a salt that is not just a flavor enhancer, but one that brings out the flavor of the ingredients and leaves a lingering aftertaste of the ingredients and salt.”

Sake shop Hirata

Suo-Oshima Town

Sales of Sanbyōshi soy sauce in 300ml plastic bottles (Tachibana) (Light) (High-grade sashimi)

The first to fourth generations of the company did not promote Sanbyōshi soy sauce outside of Suo-Oshima town, but now it is my turn to take over and I would like this sweet and delicious Sanbyōshi soy sauce to be used not only by the people of Suo-Oshima town, but by people all over the country, so please do enjoy it.”

The sound is not heard by the ears but rather felt by the body, as it vibrates and resonates throughout the body.
